The City of Worcester will hold its annual Independence Day Celebration Friday, July 1, at Christoforo Colombo Park on Shrewsbury Street. This year’s celebration, sponsored by Fallon Community Health Plan, begins at 7 p.m. In the case of inclement weather, the event will be held on Saturday, July 2. The current forecast for Friday is mostly sunny with a slight chance of showers earlier in the day.
Schedule of events:
- 6 p.m. – Christoforo Colombo Park (East Park) opens to the public, including the Kid’s Korner with the Worcester Sharks, cultural organizations and many kid-friendly activities.
- 8 p.m. – Musical performance by the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra.
- 9:30 p.m. – Fireworks display.
This year’s fireworks display is coordinated by the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce and the City of Worcester. Other sponsors include Price Chopper, Polar Beverages, CSX, Telegram & Gazette, 96.1 WSRS, WTAG 580AM/94.9FM, Charter TV3 and Charter Communications and the Carpenters Union. The Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra’s appearance is part of the Bank of America Summer Concert Series.
