More than just a person of interest
It’s been nearly five months since Alex Scesny was named a “person of interest” in the 1996 murder of Theresa Stone of Fitchburg. No more. The Worcester County DA’s office has charged Scesny in the rape and murder of Stone, a murder that they believe is connected with the murder of five other female prostitutes since 1996 who worked the Main South area of Worcester.
The Telegram & Gazette filed a breaking news story this afternoon about the charges, which came just after Scesny was aquitted on several charges relating to an alleged rape of his then-girlfriend last year. The jury found Scesny not guilty of the rape and attempted murder but did find him guilty of assault and battery.
DA spokesman Tim Connolly said the DA had held off on charging Scesny with the murder until his trial for rape and attempted murder was over to avoid the potential of tainting the jury’s judgment. The months leading up to this had created some speculation in the media as to why Scesny had been named a person of interest, but not a suspect and why so little visible movement had been seen on the case. Today’s news clearly sheds some light on why.
